چکیده

Global environmental pollution and energy crisis have been regarded as important issues in recent years, making people aware of the need to develop environmentally friendly sources. ZnO photocatalysts play a key role development hydrogen generation from water splitting via photocatalytic strategy. generally exhibits n-type conductivity, difficulty preparing p-type for forming stable p–n junctions limits its large-scale application. The doping related elements into can introduce new shallow acceptor levels achieve conductivity also overcome barrier wide bandgap accomplish higher light absorption efficiency. Meanwhile, realization facilitate construction ZnO-based homojunctions heterojunctions, which will accelerate photoinduced charge separation then enhance performance. In this Perspective, we discuss advances fabrication by different dopants describe benefits compared applications. Finally, analyze difficulties challenges employed consider future advancement an emerging area.

Visible-light-driven photocatalytic carbon-doped porous ZnO nanoarchitectures for solar water-splitting.

C-doped ZnO hierarchically porous nanoarchitectures were synthesized in situ on indium tin oxide (ITO) through a counter strategy. The PEC performance of the C-doped ZnO nanoarchitectures in the splitting of water without sacrificial reagents was systematically evaluated for the first time. In comparison to other ZnO-based photoanodes in the literature, C-doped ZnO nanoarchitectures exhibit a s...

Comparison of photocatalytic and transport properties of TiO2 and ZnO nanostructures for solar-driven water splitting.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures have been widely used as photo-catalysts due to their low-cost, high surface area, robustness, abundance and non-toxicity. In this work, four TiO2 and ZnO-based nanostructures, i.e. TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs), TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2 NTs), ZnO nanowires (ZnO NWs) and ZnO@TiO2 core-shell structures, specifically prepared with a fixed th...

Photocatalytic CdSe QDs-decorated ZnO nanotubes: an effective photoelectrode for splitting water.

Arrays of ZnO nanorods (NRs) were successfully converted into nanotubes (NTs), used as photoelectrodes in photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells after their sensitization with CdSe quantum dots (QDs) and a strong correlation between the PEC performance and geometrical structure of ZnO NTs@CdSe(QDs) and ZnO NRs@CdSe(QDs) was established under the same conditions.

Metal–Organic Frameworks and Their Derivatives for Photocatalytic Water Splitting

Amongst many strategies for renewable energy conversion, light-driven water splitting to produce clean H2 represents a promising approach and has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Owing to the multi-electron/multi-proton transfer nature of water splitting, low-cost and competent catalysts are needed. Along the rapid development of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) during the last tw...
